Declutter Before Moving: Purge Before You Pack
Moving is the perfect time to decide what deserves space in your new home—and what doesn’t.
Don’t spend time packing things you no longer want. Don’t use valuable space in the moving truck for them. And definitely don’t carry them into your new home just to deal with them later.

Facebook Marketplace makes it easy to list items locally and arrange pickup. Price items fairly, use clear photos and mention that buyers must collect them by a specific date.
For safety, avoid sharing unnecessary personal information and arrange pickups during daylight hours when possible.
Donate Useful Items
Gently used clothing, furniture and household goods can help local families and organizations. Local Buy Nothing groups are also useful for giving items directly to people nearby—often with porch pickup.
Schedule donation pickups early because appointment availability and accepted items can vary. Only donate things that are clean, working and still useful. If an item belongs in the trash, don’t turn it into someone else’s problem.

Toss or Recycle What’s Left
Discard broken, damaged or unusable items responsibly. Check local guidelines before disposing of paint, chemicals, batteries, electronics or other materials that may require special handling.
Shred paperwork containing personal or financial information instead of placing it directly in the trash.
